Shukra – Zukra, Aspujit, Daityaguru, Dhishnya, Shukracharya March 18, 2019 by anand About Shukra Shukra -Venus Zukra or Shukra as he is commonly referred in Hindu mythology is the son of Rishi Bhrigu and Kavyamata. One of the most renowned rishis, he is believed to be the only one considered worthy of being taught the Sanjivani Mantra by Lord Shiva himself. The Zukra is represented by the planet Venus and denotes pleasure, beauty and material aspects of life. The word Shukra literally means bright, white, pure, resplendent and spotless. These characteristics are referred in different Vedas to represent everything that is pure from the gentleness of the moon’s rays to the purity of fire and are a founding stone of the Vedic astrology. The planet Venus, representing Zukra, is closer to Earth than to the Sun and has a diameter of nearly 12100 kilometres. It takes nearly 225 days of Earth to complete its revolution around the sun, and approximately 243 days of Earth to complete one ro

Lords In Houses – The Third Lord In Houses September 28, 2020 by Team Jothishi In a birth chart, there are twelve houses and nine Grahas or planets . The effects of a house are determined not only by the placement of a planet in that house but also by the house lord. An astrologer studies the horoscope by planetary placement, house lord placement as well as other factors such as the significator, Aspect (Drishti), Yogas etc. The third lord’s placement in any of the houses of the chart can be interpreted as follows. Bhava Chart Vs Rashi Chart The birth chart is the Rashi chart. It assigns the Rashi in which the Lagna degree falls as the first house and so on till the twelfth house. The degree of the Lagna does not affect the house boundaries. However, the Bhav Chalit or Bhava Chalit chart redraws the house boundaries based on the Lagna degree. The redrawn house borders sometimes cause the planets to move into the next or previous house. The house lordship is determined from the R

Brihaspati or Jupiter – His Birth And Vrath Kathas (Stories as prayer) August 20, 2020 by Team Jothishi Brihaspati is the Dev Guru or the teacher of the Gods. He attained this honour through penance on the banks of the Prabhas Tirth. As a reward for his penance, Lord Shiva granted him the position as the Dev Guru and as one of the Navagrahas (nine planets). Lord Krishna references Brihaspati in the Bhagavad Gita when he says that among the priests he is Brihaspati. The Planet Jupiter Birth Of Brihaspati Angira was one of the Manas Putras of Brahma. His wife Shradha was a daughter of Kardam Rishi. Shradha’s three sons are Utathya, Brihaspati and Samvart. So we attribute the Angira’s lineage to Brihaspati. Shradha was unfaithful to Angira during her pregnancy. This resulted in her child being stillborn. She repented and so Angira gave the child life. This child was Brihaspati. Brihaspati had two wives; Shubh and Tara. He had seven daughters by Shubh. Tara had 7 sons and 1 daughter.

From Shani Mahatmya – The Mythology Behind Brihaspati or Jupiter August 17, 2020 by Team Jothishi Shani Mahatmya is a narration of the happenings in the life of the King Vikramaditya during his seven and a half year Saturn period called Sade-Sati. The narration starts in the court of the King Vikramaditya. He was a very wise, benevolent and well-loved King. King Vikramaditya liked to encourage meaningful debate in his court. He was listening to a debate on which planet among the Navgrahas was the greatest. One by one the representative of each planet stood up and described and praised the virtues of their planet. Each representative naturally argued that their planet was indeed the best of them all. Surya or the Sun was the first planet whose virtues were extolled. Next came the representatives of Chandra (Moon), Mars (Mangal) and Mercury (Budh). The King listened carefully to each of the speeches. The next speaker was the representative of Guru or Jupiter . Brihaspati Gur
